Harrison Central High Receives $20K Donation

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (November 29, 2021) – During Monday night’s Harrison County School Board meeting, Dr. Joe Olmi presented a check in the amount of $20,000 to the Harrison Central High School Baseball and Softball programs. The donation was made in memory of his late brother Pat Olmi, who had a legendary career as a baseball coach at Harrison Central.

Coach Olmi was the longest tenured baseball coach at HCHS and the winningest coach in the school’s history. He spent 35 years in coaching, with 20 of those seasons at Harrison Central. Coach Olmi was also a two-time selection for Sun Herald Coach of the Year. Over his last eight season, the Red Rebels were 122-74 and made it to the Class 6A state title game in 2013.

Coach Olmi retired from HCHS in May of 2017. Sadly, the beloved coach passed away in December of 2019. The Olmi family requested that the money be used for improvements to the workout facilities, specifically, replacing the netting and flooring inside the building.

In a letter to the superintendent, Dr. Olmi wrote: “The Harrison County Baseball and Girls’ Softball Programs have come to mean so much to our family due to Pat’s love, dedication, and service to those programs. Pat dedicated his life to developing and improving those facilities for the School District and for the kids who participate in those programs. The Olmi Family is excited to contribute to the programs and to the athletes and coach staffs of both and look forward to seeing the improvements in the facility.”

On behalf of Harrison Central High, HCSD would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Dr. Olmi and the entire Olmi family for their generosity and support.
