Surprising March HCSD Staff of the Month Winner

(March 3, 2025) - On this 'Thankful Thursday,' we are grateful for fantastic staff members like Mrs. Sonja Cuevas! She’s in her third year as the bookkeeper and secretary at Orange Grove Elementary, and today, we dropped by the school to surprise Mrs. Cuevas with the exciting news that she is our March HCSD Staff of the Month winner!
 
"She is awesome! She has a huge responsibility, from answering phones to maintaining our school finances and budget to overseeing resources and ensuring our teachers have what they need. We appreciate her so much!" said Orange Grove Elementary Principal Kelly Wawrek.
 
Mrs. Cuevas started her career as a substitute teacher at various schools. Three years ago, she decided she wanted to work in the Harrison County School District. She searched for available positions on the district website and was hired for the bookkeeping job at OGE after filling out an application.
 
“I really enjoy the staff and everyone here at the school. Thank y’all so much!” said Cuevas.
 
Many thanks to our friends from Guild Mortgage Gulfport for sponsoring this special recognition! Mr. Michael Cobb and Ms. Kelly Boyd presented Mrs. Cuevas with a $100 restaurant gift card to The Chimneys in Gulfport, a box of cookies, balloons, coffee, and other goodies.
