Pineville Elementary Recognized as MS Emerging Science of Reading School

(August 17, 2026) – An exciting day at Pineville Elementary School as the school received special recognition from the Mississippi Department of Education.
Pineville Elementary was recognized as a 2026-27 Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading School. This designation celebrates Pineville’s commitment to implementing best practices in literacy instruction. The recognition honors schools that have trained teachers in the Science of Reading, exemplified a change of instructional practices, and embodied a school culture focused on building skillful, strong readers in kindergarten through third grade.
During the ceremony, MDE’s K-3 Literacy Leadership Team presented Pineville Elementary with the Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading School banner to commemorate the school’s achievement. District leaders, school administrators, former Pineville Elementary Principal Jamie Boyer, teachers, and community members gathered for the special presentation. The celebration highlighted the dedication of Pineville’s educators to strengthening literacy instruction and supporting student success.
“Today is not simply about receiving an award. It is about celebrating the collective work of an entire school community. The Science of Reading is about giving every child the strong literacy foundation they need to be successful—not only in school, but throughout their lives,” said Pineville Elementary Principal Abby Engle.
Congratulations to everyone at Pineville Elementary! We are incredibly proud of you and all the hard work that made this achievement possible.
