Unveiling Our Future: Harrison County School District Launches New Logo

Posted Date: 9/17/24 (2:06 PM)

(September 16, 2024) - Dear HCSD Families and Community Members,

We are excited to unveil the new Harrison County School District logo, designed to reflect our shared core values and vision for the future! The updated and dynamic design results from years of planning and a collaborative effort involving a Brand Steering Committee comprised of district leadership and specialists, former teachers, parents, alumni, an elected official, and business owners. This new logo will be featured across all our communications, materials, and facilities.

We want to take a moment to explain why this new logo is significant to us and our school community.

Each element of the new emblem was carefully crafted to embody our district's academic mission and goals while capturing the spirit of our beloved Mississippi Gulf Coast.

• The connection of the water to the book represents the connectedness and unity among our 24 campuses in HCSD.
• The waves of knowledge convey the message that through high expectations and a strong support system, students can thrive and become productive citizens, empowered leaders, and lifelong learners.
• The graduation cap stands for our commitment to academic excellence and our dedication to preparing students for success.
• The sun signifies the bright future that lies ahead for our students.
• The birds symbolize our belief in the potential of our students to soar to new heights.
• The image of the state of Mississippi expresses the pride we share in our home state.
• The star shines on Harrison County and our proud academic legacy since the school district was established in 1957.

The new logo features blue, gold, and white colors, and it embodies the theme of Connect-Empower-Thrive, which is central to our mission of providing an exceptional educational experience for every student.

CONNECT: While Harrison County is the largest school district in South Mississippi, encompassing 450 square miles and nine unique communities, we are connected as one school family. We aim to foster stronger relationships and create a more positive and supportive network where everyone can collaborate and grow.

EMPOWER: We are dedicated to empowering our students with the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed. Our focus is on nurturing their potential and encouraging them to take charge of their learning journey.

THRIVE: Every student deserves a quality education and the opportunity to thrive. By providing a range of enriching programs and a healthy, safe, and caring learning environment, we strive to help our students excel, whether they pursue their goals through college, career, or military service.

“The new Harrison County School District logo visually tells our story and serves as a reminder of our commitment to providing a vibrant and supportive educational community,” said Harrison County School District Superintendent William Bentz. “We believe this new logo will help us build even stronger connections and promote a sense of pride and belonging. Thank you for being a vital part of our school district’s journey, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership to build a brighter future for our students.”

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Brand Steering Committee for assisting us in reimagining our visual identity. We also want to thank our Technology Specialist, Chris Skinner, for his dedication in designing the new district logo. His creativity and technical skills have brought to life an emblem that genuinely captures the essence of the district’s mission and vision. This school-community collaborative effort demonstrates that together, we can Connect, Empower, and Thrive!
