HCSD Partners with FabLab to Host Summer Camps

Posted Date: 8/05/24 (11:02 AM)

(August 5, 2024) –This summer, the Harrison County School District partnered with FabLab Jackson County to host several fun and educational summer camps! We had Future Engineering & Design, Exploring Future in STEAM, Coding/Robotics, and Future Entrepreneurs. The students had a great time working with their hands and learning! We look forward to continuing this partnership next summer!

Future Engineering and Design
Students enjoyed exploring engineering and design concepts with activities like “Popsicle Bridge Build: How Strong Can You Make It?” For “Create a Lego Marble Run”, they used ramps and jumps to construct a maze. The design and build of the “Paper Roller Coaster” were unique and personal as they learned about kinetic and potential energy.
Coding/Robotics
Students learned about block coding, experienced programming robots, and completed obstacle courses. They also ventured into the digital world by learning coding through programs like CODE.org and VRVEX.com while exploring and completing some online playgrounds and tasks. We also reviewed careers related to coding.
Future Entrepreneurs
Students created their own Etsy Shop, researched an item to create, and made a business plan to promote a product created. With the design of a tote bag, a travel games pack, and sublimate a puzzle with your favorite picture, they used engineering skills and creative thinking to bring a product from design to prototype for the Etsy store.
