Posted Date: 6/04/24 (3:28 PM)

(June 3, 2024)—We are thrilled to announce that Mr. Kevin Roberts will serve as the new athletic director for the Harrison County School District! Coach Roberts brings a wealth of experience to the position and a deep connection to our community, making him the ideal leader for our athletic programs.

Roberts is a Harrison County alumnus. He graduated from Harrison Central High in 1995 and continued his education by studying business and playing outside linebacker at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. From there, he transferred to Mississippi College, where he lettered in football for the Choctaws and was a member of the ASC football championship team in 1997.
Roberts graduated from MC with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Marketing in 1999. He earned his master's in Education from William Carey University in 2003.

Roberts began his career in education in 2001, teaching 6th grade at Orange Grove Elementary and coaching football at North Gulfport Middle School. He transferred to Gulfport High in 2002, where he taught freshmen social studies courses and coached 9th grade football and basketball, as well as varsity and JV baseball, until 2003.

Roberts was then hired at Harrison Central High. He became a varsity assistant football coach in 2004 and later served as the defensive coordinator for the Red Rebels football team. He also was the head tennis coach, taught social studies, and served as the History Department Chair.

In 2013, Roberts transferred to D’Iberville High. He was a varsity assistant football coach and continued teaching history and economics. After three seasons as an assistant coach, he decided to move in the direction of educational leadership. Roberts served as an Instructional Coach at DHS for three years.

In 2018, Roberts became the assistant principal at Three Rivers Elementary. He advanced to principal of THE Woolmarket Elementary in 2021. While there, the school achieved the highest accountability scores on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the 2021-2022 school year.

Roberts has been married to Kristi Roberts since 2001. He is the proud father of Xander (DHS Class of ’22) and Raegan (DHS Class of ’26).

Roberts' extensive experience in education, coaching, and administration, combined with his dedication to student development and academic excellence, make him a valuable addition to HCSD’s leadership team. We are confident our athletic programs will continue to thrive under his direction and inspire excellence in our student-athletes. Roberts replaces Mr. Averie Bush, who is retiring on June 30.

Please help us congratulate Coach Roberts and welcome him to his new role as Athletic Director of HCSD!
